In the Coffee Shop II

An update to my August 8 post, In the Coffee Shop.

My friend Emily works in the Coffee shop. We have been hanging out lately, and went there together Thursday night.

While Emily was working on Friday, the woman who confronted me came up to her and asked about the guy she was with the night before (me). Emily acknowledged our friendship and the woman fearfully warned her "I think he's doing something with Kerry!" Emily, being the caring soul she is, informed the woman "I don't want to disappoint you, but I think I'm voting for Kerry too."

I wish I could have seen the look on her face. The woman then asked Emily if she supported abortion. Emily replied that she did not, and not wishing to explain how she does not believe in legislating against others having abortions, she ended the conversation and went back to work.

So now I am bringing down my friends. At least I got a good laugh about it.

I saw the woman this morning. She said "hi" and I replied "hello", as I smiled.

Hillarious Roommates

Politics aside, these are funny: Larry Lessig, et al. have set up a site for political ads. In the Kerry section, watch the "If the Bush Administration was your Roommate" series (there are 5 of them).

They're really funny and remind me of my roommates....

Klingons for Kerry

In one of the funniest and least scientific polls available, Klingons in Portland, Oregon overwhelmingly support John Kerry for President. From the article:
According to the poll of eight local Klingons, a whopping 75 percent support the Democratic nominee.

Two Klingons polled--or 25 percent--said they planned to write in Satan.

My New Apartment

"I made a fabulous dinner for us. Dinner music was the new Magnetic Fields CD I picked up. I left for a meeting after dinner but returned about 10pm. I just stood, staring, thinking how unbelievable it is to have my own apartment. My apartment and I are starting a long term relationship." - Matt Nickel
I am not as eloquent as Matt, but I did also move into a new apartment. Its a nice 2-bedroom place on 13th Street in Holland. I have a nice size place, a great porch, and space of my own. I set up my Piano in the living room, put some art on the walls, and it feels like home. Never mind the lack of a couch, cable TV, or a great bookshelf.

Eric, Jeff and Emily joined me for dinner on Monday and we were joined later by Ellen and Liz. As a restaurant critic said on the radio yesterday "I would rather have lousy food and have good friends with me, than eat great food alone". We had both good food and good friends. I'm thankful for that - what a wonderful way to start my relationship with my apartment.

Yellow Wrists

Did anyone notice during the debate last night that Kerry was wearing a Livestrong bracelet? It was hidden, and hard to see, but we definitely saw it (unless he has a bright yellow watch).

Very cool.
